I’ve always been visible. People tend to watch me closely. What’s been more revealing is how often they try to decide who I am before actually paying attention.
A Place for Depth, Not Projection
This Is Kendra is an editorial site written and published by me, Kendra Trammel. As a Black woman, I’ve learned how eager people can be to collapse complexity into shorthand—to project expectations, assumptions, and narratives that have nothing to do with me. I don’t hide who I am. I’m clear. I’m expressive. I’m present. And still, people sometimes prefer the version that fits their imagination.
This space exists outside of that.
I’m educated, discerning, deeply curious, and joyfully multifaceted. I listen to rock and classical music. I love the outdoors—camping, biking, hiking, backpacking. I’m a DIY crafter, a technology nerd, an indie film lover, and a diehard sports fan. I adore Phantom of the Opera. I notice everything.
I believe depth and play are companions, not opposites. I flirt with ideas—and with people too—in the most human sense of the word. For me, flirtation is attentiveness: noticing who hasn’t been noticed, especially in groups, and creating ease through warmth and curiosity. It isn’t romance. It’s recognition.
Here I write essays and stories, and capture visual moments that explore identity, perception, desire, creativity, and becoming. My interview series, Six Questions With, explores diverse voices around the same set of questions and reveals the unexpected threads that connect us. Muse in Plain Sight celebrates finding the courage to commit fully to owning who you are—not perfectly, but honestly. And my brand narrative and stewardship work helps organizations find clarity and cohesion both internally, and externally.
All of it is driven by the same intention: to create spaces free from assumption. Spaces where people can show up whole, without being flattened or categorized. Where reflection is as powerful as action. Where discovery is invited, not forced.
People sometimes tell me I’m hard to figure out. I think that’s because I’m not meant to be reduced. I’m meant to be experienced without shortcuts.
You don’t have to figure me out to be here.
You don’t have to explain yourself either.
Just bring your attention.
We’ll see what shows up.
Welcome.
Take your time.
This is Kendra—unfiltered, unhurried, unfolding.
