Refreshing Summer: Classic Sangria Recipe

Sangria is the perfect mix of effortless and classic—refreshing, bold, and just the right amount of dangerous–if you don’t watch your intake. Whether you’re hosting a backyard gathering, a rooftop dinner, or just making Tuesday feel a little more festive, this fruit-soaked wine cocktail always delivers. The best part? It’s low-effort, high-reward. A solid bottle of wine, fresh fruit, and a splash of something stronger, and you’ve got a drink that tastes like you put in way more effort than you actually did. Plus, it gets better as it sits—like all good things.

Classic Sangria

Kick back with a classic sangria that serves four—because good wine, fresh fruit, and a little extra something are always a good idea. Perfect for warm days, good company, or just because.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle red wine (such as Rioja or Merlot) (750 ml)
  • 1/4 cup brandy (60 ml)
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur (such as triple sec) (60 ml)
  • 1 cup 1 cup orange juice (240 ml)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (50 g)
  • 1 orange (sliced)
  • 1 lemon (sliced)
  • 1 lime (sliced)
  • 1 apple (cored and sliced)
  • 1 cup strawberries (sliced)
  • 1 cup club soda or sparkling water (240 ml) (optional, for a fizzy touch)
  • ice

Instructions

  • Mix the Base: In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, brandy, orange liqueur, and orange juice. Stir in the sugar until it dissolves.
  • Add the Fruit: Add the orange, lemon, lime, and apple slices to the pitcher. Stir to combine.
  • Chill: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, allowing the flavors to meld. For best results, chill for up to 24 hours.
  • Serve: Before serving, add the club soda or sparkling water if you like a fizzy sangria. Fill glasses with ice and pour the sangria over the top, making sure to include some of the fruit slices in each glass.
  • Garnish (Optional): Garnish with additional fruit slices if desired.
